The University of Faisalabad conducted a comprehensive orientation program for its newly inducted faculty members in September 2024. The program was designed to familiarize the new faculty with the university’s culture, policies, and academic standards, equipping them with the tools needed for professional growth and excellence in teaching and research.
The program kicked off with a warm welcome by Prof Dr Aman Ullah Malik, Pro-rector, TUF, who provided an overview of the student counseling services available at TUF. Ms Zahida Maqbool, Registrar, TUF provided an overview of the university's vision, mission, and governance . Faculty members gained insights into TUF’s policies and practices through sessions led by Ms Nazish Sehar, Deputy Registrar HR, Ms Sehrish Nisar, Asst Manager Legal Compliance and Dr Tazmeen Kaukab, Medical Educationist focusing on university policies, professional presence, and communication skills.
The subsequent days were filled with valuable workshops, including a session on pedagogy by Dr Komal Atta, Director Medical Education UMDC, research and publishing tips by Prof Dr Rao Zahid, from University of Agriculture Faisalabad and hands-on training on TUF’s Learning Management System by Ms Safa Iftikhar, Coordinator National Business School.
Mr Muhammad Ali, Additional Registrar and Head, Department of Law, outlined TUF's policy against sexual harassment, emphasizing guiding principles, prohibited conduct, confidentiality, and staff training. Mr Muhammad Hanan Iftikhar, Head of International Programs, presented strategies for effective student engagement, focusing on managing diverse classrooms and fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments. An insightful session on Lesson Planning, led by Ms. Afsheen Javaid, Head Department of Design and Interiors covered essential components such as learning objectives, instructional materials, teaching methods, lesson activities, and time management, helping educators craft effective and engaging lessons.
Mr Ali Hasnain from the National Business School led a session on engaging students in extracurricular activities, highlighting their role in building soft skills and personal growth. Mr Muhammad Hassan Javed from department of LAW, and Izza Ayub from Rehabilitation Sciences, emphasized physical fitness, teamwork, and leadership in student development through sports and games. Prof Dr Tahira Iqbal, Dean of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, discussed the importance of hands-on learning and classroom simulations in medical education. Furthermore, Dr Amna Javed, Manager of International Linkages, discussed strategies for fostering internationalization, enhancing TUF’s global outreach and collaborations. Prof Dr Syed Amir Gilani, highlighted the significance of Online Distance Learning (ODL) in contemporary education. Dr Muhammad Arshad Shehzad provided valuable insights on Outcome-Based Learning Assessment.
Mr Muhammad Zubair, Controller of Examinations, led an informative session on grading policies, attendance regulations, examination protocols, and student evaluation methods. Faculty members also learned about curriculum development, innovative teaching strategies, and student support services from experts such as Prof Dr Majid Hussain, Dean Faculty of Information Technology, Prof Dr Aman Ullah Malik, Director ORIC and Prof Dr Tanzeela Khalid, Dean Clinical Trainings.
The orientation emphasized sustainable academic practices, technological integration, and the alignment of university curricula with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with informative sessions by Mr Muhammad Afzal, Executive Director Institutional Performance and Dr Rimsha Riaz, Asst Manager Research, ORIC. Mr Taimoor, Assistant Librarian delivered a comprehensive presentation on digital libraries, covering topics like resource searching, evaluation, accessibility, as well as copyright and plagiarism issues. Participants shared their reflections and feedback on the orientation program, ensuring that future programs continue to evolve and meet the needs of both faculty and students. Certificates were also awarded to the new faculty members, upon the successful completion of their orientation sessions, recognizing their readiness to contribute to the institution's academic and professional excellence.
At the grand conclusion of orientation sessions, Mr Muhammad Haider Amin, Chairman Board of Governors, delivered an inspiring address that resonated with the entire TUF community.
He passionately highlighted the significance of teamwork, emphasizing how collaborative efforts have positioned TUF as a globally recognized institution. Teachers play a crucial role not only in imparting knowledge but also in guiding and supporting students through their academic journeys, he added. He also lauded the collective commitment of faculty, staff, and students, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence.
Following the successful conclusion of the orientation sessions an exclusive and formal Annual Dinner was organized under the patronage of Chairman BOG. Ms Zahida Maqbool, Registrar, all Deans, and Heads were among the distinguished attendees at the dinner. The event featured a Qawwali Night, offering a delightful cultural experience for all attendees. Faculty and administration members gathered to enjoy the vibrant performances. This memorable evening served as a perfect opportunity for team-building and camaraderie.
