World Pathology Day: Spotlight on the Global Pathology Workforce

The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at The University of Faisalabad formally commemorated World Pathology Day with a dedicated on-campus academic event, highlighting the pivotal role of pathology in advancing modern healthcare and diagnostics. As part of the celebration, students showcased their research projects and participated in research poster competitions aimed at fostering scientific inquiry and professional development. Dr Zaema Umar, Head of the Department, personally evaluated the projects, providing valuable feedback and recognizing outstanding contributions.

As part of the World Pathology Day activities, an informative and engaging workshop held, titled “Lab Safety First: Principles and Practices of Biosafety.” This session aimed to enhance awareness about laboratory safety and to reinforce best practices essential for maintaining a secure and efficient working environment.

The session was led by Ms Misbah Rasheed, Laboratory Technician – Provincial TB Control Program Punjab (Global Fund), BSL-II TB Culture Laboratory, Pathology Department, Faisalabad Medical University/Allied Hospital, who delivered a comprehensive and insightful presentation on fundamental biosafety principles, risk assessment, personal protective measures, and safe handling of biological materials. She highlighted the critical role of biosafety in preventing laboratory-acquired infections and ensuring overall workplace safety.

Students and faculty members actively participated in the session, engaging in discussions and learning practical approaches to implement biosafety measures in day-to-day laboratory work. The workshop served as a valuable learning opportunity, especially for aspiring laboratory professionals.
