A seminar on World Leprosy Day was organized by department of Dermatology in collaboration with TUF Society for Skincare and Pakistan Association of Dermatology (PAD). Renowned German Physician Dr Chris Schmotzer, focal person on Leprosy in Pakistan for WHO, Director of Rawalpindi Leprosy Hospital, graced the occasion as the chief guest and delivered an insightful and informative lecture.
Dr Chris, emphasized the need for continued efforts in eliminating leprosy and urged the audience to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding the disease. She spoke about the advancements in leprosy treatment and the importance of providing support and care to those affected by the disease. A poster competition was also the part of the event, where students displayed their creative skills and knowledge about leprosy. The posters highlighted the causes, symptoms, treatment, and prevention of leprosy, to raise awareness about this neglected disease. Following the poster competition, a documentary competition was also held, where students presented short films on the topic.
The documentaries effectively captured the social stigma associated with leprosy, the challenges faced by patients, and the importance of early detection and treatment. This was followed by post seminar workshop in Madinah Teaching Hospital where Dr Chris had an interactive session with postgraduate students and engaged in hands on practice on leprosy patients. The event concluded with a pledge to work towards a world free of leprosy, and the participants expressed their commitment to spreading awareness and supporting those affected by the disease. The event was a significant step in raising awareness about this often-overlooked disease, and it provided a platform for students to actively contribute to the cause.
