Good Health and Well-being
Volunteers from the Rehabilitation Society organised Project Roshan on 15 May 2026 in the village of Balloana 203JB, Punjab, with the aim of improving the lives of families living in areas affected by limited and unreliable electricity access. The community welfare initiative focused on providing affordable and sustainable lighting solutions to underserved households. As part of the project, volunteers installed solar streetlights, solar lamps, and portable solar torches to help residents carry out daily activities more safely and conveniently during the evening hours.
One of the most innovative aspects of Project Roshan was the use of recycled plastic bottles combined with solar lighting technology to create environmentally friendly and cost-effective lighting systems. The installed lights included automatic sensors, built-in battery storage, and easy handling features, making them especially beneficial for elderly and illiterate individuals within the community.
In addition to the installation activities, the volunteers conducted an awareness campaign on fall prevention, personal hygiene, eye health, and the importance of proper lighting in improving safety and well-being. The campaign encouraged residents to adopt healthier and safer practices while also promoting environmental responsibility. Project Roshan reflected the values of innovation, teamwork, sustainability, and social responsibility. Through its efforts, the initiative contributed towards several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
The residents of Balloana 203JB appreciated the efforts of the Rehabilitation Society and expressed gratitude for the positive impact created through the project. Improved lighting conditions have enhanced mobility, increased safety, and brought greater convenience to everyday life within the village. Project Roshan stands as a strong example of how community-driven initiatives and sustainable innovation can create meaningful social and environmental change for underserved communities.
