The Department of English Language and Literature, TUF organized Final Thesis Defense for students of 8th semester. Special Guests Ms Sadia Waheed, Dr. Ausima Sultan, and Dr. Asim Mehmood were present as External Examiners. First Thesis Defense took place on 11th July, 2023. The evaluation committee consisted of Dr. Nailah Riaz, HOD of the English Department, Coordinator Ms Hafsah Zafar, and the External Examiner Ms Sadia Waheed.
The students presented their research on varying literary subject matters.The linguistic studies presented on this day were identified by their approach to Critical Discourse Analysis. Ms Sadia Waheed showed appreciation for the hard work of students, and also suggested improvements in areas where there were discrepancies.
The second Final Thesis Defense was conducted on 14th July, 2023, and the second batch presented their research studies. The examination committee was made up of Dr. Nailah Riaz, HOD of the English Department, Coordinator Ms Hafsah Zafar, and external examiner Dr. Ausima Sultan, HOD of the English Department of the Institute of Space Technology. Presenters’ linguistic studies were mostly comprised of research in the fields of Critical Discourse Analysis and Corpus Linguistics.
Dr. Ausima posed questions to the presenters, and provided detailed feedback. She suggested different corrections, and also acknowledged the students’ hard work by providing positive comments on precise key points.
The third Final Thesis Defense was conducted on 18th July, 2023, for the remaining batch of the English department. Dr. Nailah Riaz, and Ms Hafsah Zafar were present as evaluators. Dr. Asim Mehmood, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, was the external examiner of this defense.
The students presented their literary and linguistic research while emphasizing the key points, and answered the examiners’ questions in detail. Dr. Asim Mehmood generously complimented the presenters, and showed admiration for their efforts. He also provided feedback to the presenters while courteously appreciating the technicalities of their research.
In response to the evaluators, the students demonstrated in-depth knowledge of their research while masterfully defending their theses. Through the examiners’ comments, presenters came to know about the inconsistencies present in their theses. They made comprehensive notes of the suggested improvements required for the final revised theses.
