The Department of Community Medicine, UMDC organized a seminar in context of World Malaria Day to create awareness about the disease among the general public and university students, and to encourage action towards reducing the suffering and death caused by malaria. This year's theme of the day is, "Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate & implement," focuses on preventing, diagnosing, and treating malaria, especially among marginalized populations.
The goal of reducing the disease burden and eliminating malaria is crucial for achieving many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly to SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages and its Target 3.3: “By 2030, end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases.
Guest Speaker, Dr Muhammad Zulqarnain, who serves as the District Health Program Coordinator for Epidemics Control at the District Health Authority (DHA) in Faisalabad, provided information on the annual incidence of malaria cases. He stressed the importance of maintaining a clean and dry environment in and around our homes to prevent the growth of malaria larvae. In addition, he highlighted the use of modern methods such as biological and chemical control to prevent malaria. Dr Zulqarnain urged the audience to spread this message to their families and become change agents for the District Health Authority Faisalabad.
