WORLD CANCER DAY 2022

World Cancer Day is an international day marked on February 4 to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. It is led by the Union for International Cancer Control, a global consortium of more than 470 cancer-fighting organizations in over 120 countries. It is only by every person, organization, and government, individually doing their part that the world will be able to reduce the global cancer burden.

So getting involved with the slogan "Close the care gap", the Pathology department UMDC organized a poster competition incorporating the Department of Pathology, School of Nursing, and laboratory staff Madinah teaching hospital. Students from the Department of Pathology and School of Nursing participated with high esteem and enthusiasm making posters on different types of cancers, their early diagnosis, and treatment. Marvelous ideas of students were highlighting the value of observing World Cancer day and its impact on the elucidation of the issues. The highly scholastic approach of the judges; HoD Forensic Medicine Professor Dr Shirza Nadeem, HoD Pharmacology Professor Dr Saba Tariq and Professor of Physiology Dr Sundus Tariq made their remarks on the presentation skills of students. Based on scoring remarks by judges three posters were declared and awarded three positions. Prof Dr Shazia Aslam, HoD Pathology welcomed the worthy guests in the prize distribution ceremony held at Saleem auditorium. Assistant Professor Hematology Dr Sadia Ijaz highlighted the key points regarding psychological burden of a cancer patient and its possible outcomes. The guests of honor Medical Superintendent; Brig Rtd Dr Munir Ahmed, Nursing Superintendent Ms Shahida Parveen, Laboratory Manager Dr Tariq Saleem graced the event with their presence. Winners received their trophies and participants were awarded with certificates.
