TUF Represented at Global Summit "Water Energy Nexus 2025" in Abu Dhabi

The University of Faisalabad proudly represented Pakistan at the prestigious Water Energy Nexus 2025 global summit, held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Dr Shaista Shafiq, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, TUF, delivered a compelling scientific talk on water scarcity and the potential of Biotechnology and Nanotechnology to recycle wastewater—providing a sustainable path to meet Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, drive green economy initiatives, and ensure sustainable growth.

Dr Shaista Shafiq effectively highlighted Pakistan’s challenges related to water scarcity, recent advancements in wastewater treatment, and efforts to improve the quality of treated water. Her presentation received global recognition, leading to discussions on future collaborations for research and implementation of innovative water recycling solutions.

The summit also featured eminent experts such as Professor Damia Barcelo (Netherlands) and Professor Johannes Vrouwenvelder (United Kingdom), who emphasized the critical role of wastewater treatment in securing water sustainability worldwide. The Water Energy Nexus 2025 conference was organized by CMAT and Khalifa University, UAE, under the chairmanship of Dr Shadi Hassan (UAE) and Professor Vincenzo Naddeo (Italy).
