The University of Faisalabad hosted a 3-days mega event of All Pakistan 10th HEC Intervarsity Netball Women Championship 2022-23 on 18th to 20th January. The University of Faisalabad and 16 other Universities from all over Pakistan including University of Management & Technology Lahore, Lahore Garrison University, Islamia University Bahawalpur, Institute of Business Management Karachi, Govt College University Lahore, University of Punjab Lahore, Lahore College for Women University, Govt College Women University Sialkot, Superior University Lahore, LUMS Lahore, University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences Lahore, Govt College University Faisalabad, Agriculture University Faisalabad, Govt College Women University Faisalabad, The University of Lahore and Forman Christian College University Lahore participated in this championship.
Mr Saeed Ajmal (SI), former Pakistani Cricket Coach and Cricketer was the chief guest in the colorful opening ceremony held in Dr AQ Khan Ground, Saleem Campus. Mr Muhammad Haider Amin , Chairman Board of Governors, TUF, Prof (Meritorious) Dr Muhammad Khaleeq ur Rahman, Rector, Ms Mahanoor, Assistant Director Sports, HEC and Ms Zahida Maqbool, Additional Registrar, were present to encourage the young athletes.
Speaking on the opening occasion, Mr Saeed Ajmal said there was no dearth of sports talent in the country, and if the players, particularly girls, continued to get opportunities like this, they would bring laurels to the country at international level.
He encouraged the young players to show their best skills in the field. He also acknowledged the efforts of TUF for the cause of women empowerment in the country. To entertain the guest team members, university organized bonfire & BBQ night and musical concert within the campus to facilitate them creating memorable memories will last forever with them.
Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) won the championship after defeating University of Punjab team in a thrilling final match. Institute of Business Management Karachi stood 3th in the competition. Mr Naseer Ahmad, former captain and coach of Pakistani national handball team was the chief guest of closing ceremony. Mr Naseer in his address congratulated the winner team and appreciated the talent and spirit of young athletes. He also congratulated the management of The University of Faisalabad on successfully organizing this mega event.
Winner team was awarded a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 70,000 while the runner up and third position holder were awarded trophies and cash prizes of Rs. 56,000 and Rs. 42,000 respectively.
