World Earth Day was celebrated at Amin Campus of The University of Faisalabad on 22 April 2024 under the theme of "No More Plastic" which aimed at paying tribute and expressing gratitude to Mother Earth. In the presence of Dr Shaista Shafiq, Head Department of Biotechnology, students set up stalls and booths featuring slogans and information about the environment. Their goal was to raise awareness among students and others about biodiversity, climate change, and their impacts on human life.
The event commenced with a Lights Out Session, during which all the bulbs and tubes in the university were turned off at 10 am for 20 minutes. This gesture aimed to convey a message of energy conservation globally, emphasizing the need to preserve our resources for future generations. It gained momentum when esteemed heads from various departments actively participated. Prominent figures included Prof Dr Aman Ullah Malik, Director ORIC, Prof Dr Majid Hussain, Dean, Computer Science, Mr Omar Farooq Qureshi, Head Placement Bureau, and Mr Ibrahim Warraich, Chief Librarian. They toured the stalls, where students briefed them on the detrimental effects of plastic use and presented eco-friendly alternatives.
Following the desk visits, TUFIANS, accompanied by their professors and Heads of Departments, gathered on the ground for a plantation drive, during which more than 100 new plants were sowed. The event concluded with a prayer for Mother Earth and a pledge to contribute to the betterment of the planet. May peace prevail on Earth. (Amen)
