Seminar on “World Leprosy Day”

World Leprosy Day is observed internationally in the last week of January to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of the disease, and tackle the stigma associated with the patients of leprosy. Department of Dermatology, Madina Teaching Hospital in collaboration with TUF Society for Skincare observed World Leprosy day under the theme “Act Now. End Leprosy”, which profoundly explains the purpose on its own.

Renowned German Physician Dr Chris Schmotzer, Focal person on Leprosy in Pakistan for WHO, Director of Rawalpindi Leprosy Hospital, gave an informative talk on leprosy and shared her practical experiences regarding the disease management. A poster competition and a quiz competition among the students helped the audience with their concepts on leprosy as a disease.

While speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Aamir Ali Choudhry, Principal University Medical & Dental College appreciated the efforts of Dr Chris for the cause of Leprosy and Tuberculosis (TB) control in Pakistan. “Department of Dermatology, MTH is providing state of the art facilities for the treatment of all kinds of skin diseases” he added. Afterwards, Dr Chris had a session at Madina Teaching Hospital where she explained advanced treatment measures to the team of Department of Dermatology.
