Nuts and Bolts for Preparing a Strategic Plan

The fourth session of FDP series organized by QEC on the topic “Nuts and Bolts for Preparing a Strategic Plan” was held at Amin Campus, TUF on 19th January 2023. The resource person for the program was Prof Dr Muhammad Nauman Abbasi Professor & Ex-Director Institute of Management Sciences (IMS), Member of NBEAC Accreditation.

Dr Nauman started the session enthusiastically and maintained the energy and enthusiasm till the end of session. He discussed about how to develop vision and mission statement of the university by inviting all stakeholders to formulate their department's vision and mission. The nine stakeholders include students, faculty, alumni, head of department, dean, society heads, industry professionals, administration and statutory bodies members. He then explained the difference between goals and objectives and how to align the university vision and mission with departmental goals and objectives. He also explained Key Terms in Strategic Management that is an important factors to achieve long-term goals such as finances, Participation of Members in Academic Governance/Decision Making, Curriculum designing, Entry Requirements, Student Selection Criteria, Faculty engagement, Faculty workload, Faculty international outlook, etc., Research & Development, Community Participation, university Resources.

After lunch break of half an hour, he continued the session by sharing success stories of students from different universities and what practices a university should adopt for good performance which contributes in their success. He discussed 3 EXP’s: exposure, experience and expertise which are important in preparing a strategic plan and suggested that those stakeholder’s who possess these attributes should be considered in preparation of strategic plan. He also discussed the various strategic plan of universities as a case study that will be beneficial for new. At the end of session, during Q/A session, participants discussed with him their queries and then expressed appreciation to the resource person for his time.
