The Department of Optometry successfully organized Myopia Awareness Week 2024 featuring esteemed speakers and enlightening discussions. Myopia Awareness Week was a significant event aimed at increasing public understanding of myopia, its risks, and the importance of early intervention.
- Dr Mutahir Shah, a renowned PhD Scholar, served as the national guest speaker, sharing invaluable strategies for controlling myopia progression. - Dr Aamir Niazi, Senior Optometrist and President of the Pakistan Optometric Society, delved into optical options for managing myopia. - Dr Muhammad Iqbal Javaid, Senior Optometrist and Member of the Pakistan Optometric Society, underscored myopia as a global concern. - Dr Maryam Jabbar, Lecturer in Optometry, presented myopia guidelines in alignment with the Brien Holden Vision Institute.
The impact of awareness campaign was multifaceted, contributing to increased public knowledge, improved healthcare practices, and potentially influencing policies related to vision health. These efforts not only help manage and reduce the incidence of myopia but also support broader public health and educational goals, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals SDG 3, SDG 4, and SDG 10.
