International Women's Day 2024

In order to give a standing ovation to the resilience and strength of women around the world, an event was organized at TUF Saleem Campus on International Women's Day 2024. The panel discussions entitled ‘Women’s Contribution to Society’, aimed to acknowledge the honor, compassion, intelligence, and ongoing challenges, to maintain a more inclusive and equitable society. The event was gracefully hosted by Dr Nailah Riaz, Head Department of English Language and Literature who is an accomplished academic professional with a wealth of experience in English Language and Literature education. She has successfully taught courses on the subject of Women’s Writings in English. Dr Riaz's dedication to student development is reflected in her supervision of MPhil, and PhD students, with fourteen successful graduates in diverse research areas. Her research interests span a broad spectrum, including English and globalization, TESOL, technology and language teaching methodologies, and discourse analysis.

 

The chief guest was Dr Asma Aftab, Assistant Professor, Government College University, Faisalabad, whose scholarly pursuits extend, evident in her prolific publication record comprising numerous research articles, book chapters, and authored works on women’s writings. Her research interests encompass a diverse array of topics ranging from postcolonial feminism and postmodernist literary criticism to the socio-political dynamics of literature within global contexts. Noteworthy among her publications is her book "Gender Politics Falsifying Realities," which promises to offer critical insights into Anglophone Pakistani literature and its implications within broader historical and political frameworks.

Renowned and inspiring women leaders; Ms Amna Ikhlaq, CEO, WODWES company, a dynamic and tech-savvy leader, and over a decade of expertise in web technologies. She has been overseeing the strategic direction, business development, and project management of the company, Ms Bushra Abdul Rehman, TUF alumna, Operation Manager, Brand Engine Industry, Dr Tanzeela Khalid, Head Department of Dermatology, Madinah Teaching Hospital, Dr Saira Saleem, Department of Breast Surgery, Madinah Teaching Hospital, and Dr Tahira Iqbal, Head Department of Biochemistry, TUF, and Dr Nailah Riaz participated in panel discussion to highlight their successful stories in breaking the glass ceiling.

 

Furthermore, they emphasized upon challenging the stereotypes to thrive in every field. The event aimed to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and technological achievements of women. Prominent female leaders from various fields, including academia, business, technology, and social activism provided the female students with valuable insights that what type of challenges women faced in their respective fields and explored strategies for achieving gender equality. They concluded the discussion with their worthy remarks that It's a reminder to fight for equity as we all have a role to play in creating a more just and equitable world. They encouraged the female students by emphasizing that by coming together to celebrate the achievements of women and to address the challenges they face, we can work towards a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive and fulfill her potential.

Throughout the seminar, there was an inclusive and respectful atmosphere, where everyone felt empowered to contribute to the discussion. After concluding the discussion, esteemed guests answered the queries of some of the students. Later on, the souvenirs were presented to the guests by Mr Nisar Ahmad, Additional Registrar, TUF.

 

The TUF Women Empowerment Society also commemorated International Women's Day in Amin campus with Ms Beenish Aruj, Deputy Commissioner of Inland Revenue in Faisalabad, as the esteemed Chief Guest. In her address, she highlighted the pivotal role of women in societal development and emphasized their rights. TUF, Amin Campus, celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm to maintain the fact that in a world fixated on looks, we should honor women for the brilliance they bring to the table. The event aimed to honor women beyond appearance.

By incorporating these ideas into International Women's Day celebrations, TUF created meaningful impacts on female students especially, to inspire, educate, and empower them to advocate for their equity and women's rights. Furthermore, certificates of appreciation were bestowed upon members of the Women Empowerment Society for their proactive efforts in fortifying the presence of female students and staff within the university community.
