On May 3rd, 2024, the Department of Computer Sciences, TUF hosted a spectacular event, "Innovative Lyallpur," that brought together tech students from all over Pakistan, especially Faisalabad (Lyallpur), to showcase their talent and expertise in IT. The event held at TUF, Amin Campus, and was an unparalleled opportunity for students to display their Final Projects to a vast audience.
The day started with the arrival of distinguished guests, including Mr Muhammad Haidar Amin, Chairman BOG, Ms Zahida Maqbool, Registrar TUF, Dr Zill-i-Huma Nazli, VC GCUF (W), Prof Dr Saleem Farooq Shaukat, Director COMSAT and Prof Dr Muhammad Mazhar Ayaz, VC Chulistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.
Walking through the halls of CS Department, the guests were in awe of the students' work and praised them for their incredible job. The bedecked halls of the CS department were a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students, who had put in countless hours to make the event a grand success.
The official ceremony held in the Mukhtar Auditorium, where heads from different departments and faculty joined the movement. Prof Dr Majid Hussain, Dean Faculty of Information Technology, HOD, Computer Sciences delivered welcome speech. In the welcome note, TUFians, students from other universities, and attendees, gave a standing ovation to honor the guests. Dr Majid applauded the prestigious guests by name, introduced university competing for the title of Innovative Lyallpur 2.0, judges’ panel, and thanked them for their presence.
Dr Majid also provided insights on how Innovative Lyallpur started in 2023 and now it is back with even more zeal and enthusiasm, inviting guests form all of over Pakistan. Out of 210 projects, that applied to participate at TUF for Innovative Lyallpur 2.0, 150 best were selected after a critical scrutiny process.
Dr Majid added that there is a difference between success and winning. So the students today should have an eye on success rather than being winner of the day. He said, “If you are not selected today to be winner that should not be a hurdle in your success. With that, guests were invited on the stage for the expressions of thoughts.
Esteemed chief guest, Prof Dr Saleem Farooq Shouqat, Director COMSAT, Vihari Campus in his address told the audience about his incredible story and his belonging with the city. He applauded University of Faisalabad for hosting such an incredible event and giving tech students confidence to showcase their final year projects. He said that within a year, making this event from regional to national level is actually a proof how great and incredible Innovative Lyallpur 2.0 is.
He gave the example of Professor Fredrik, who gave the vision of research to the tech students and today they have become the USA have become the tech hub with having Silicon Valley. He said that events like Innovative Lyallpur will be the basis for our students to do research and make Pakistan the hub of technology and boost its economy once again.
He offered some valuable information to the students regarding www and LiFi, a wireless system that is going to be the future of wireless internet service, now being implanted in west. Talking about Innovative Lyallpur 2.0, he added about Muslim scientists who in 8th and 9th century provided the innovative ideas and west’s innovations are based on that.
He said we need to learn from the past and provide research opportunities to our students and Innovative Lyallpur 2.0 is one such kind. On the way he involved students by asking questions. He asked about their projects and offered them suggestions to learn more about quantum physics.
Later, distinguished guest Prof Dr Muhammad Mazhar Ayyaz, shared his precious words of thought. He started his speech talking about the persistency and encouraged Inaugurators of Innovative Lyallpur 2.0 for staying persistent and consistent in providing students such incredible platform.
He said that we are inspired by the idea of Innovative Lyallpur 2.0 organized by University of Faisalabad, and soon they intend to organize such event at their institute as well. He thanked Chairman BOG, Dean CS, and TUF faculty for inviting them and their team.
After this, Prof Dr Zill-i-Huma Nazli, Vice Chancellor Govt. College University for Women Faisalabad shared her thoughts. She enhanced her gratitude for the invitation and acclaimed TUF for providing students of IT with such incredible opportunity of IV2.0.
She said that although Innovative Lyallpur has reached his second year, but she is seeing this successful event to go a long way and soon TUF and Faisalabad will be celebrating its Silver Jubilee. She stressed upon doing positive things for the society. She said that try using AI to get inspiration but not to steal ideas.
Dr Nazli said we should be following the track of Holy Prophet (PBUH) in being honest and hardworking when it comes to working in our field. She said, we have very sharp minds and our students are not less than anyone. They are future and they can bring the country’s economy back on track.
In the end, she congratulated CS department of TUF for organizing such biggest event of the city, and acclaimed Mr Muhammad Haider Amin, Chairman BOG for providing this opportunity to the students across Pakistan.
Lastly, Mr Muhammad Haidar Amin who is also the member of the Higher Education Commission came forward to increase the spectrum of the day. He thanked the honorable guests for taking the time and being there.
He also congratulated the entire CS department and especially Dr Majid for making this event a success and enlightening the name of TUF in all over world. He asked the audience to give a round of applause to Dr. Majid especially for the successful day of Innovative Lyallpur 2.0. He also gave round of applause to the 45 members of the team CS for their joint efforts.
He welcomed and congratulated the students from entire Pakistan for joining the event. He said that your participation in the event is the actual success and you should not be worried for the title, because you all are already winners for representing your university here. He gave example YouTube that is now a biggest search engine for videos started as a dating website.
He also talked about Shopify and Netflix success that both platforms started with simple business idea and later pivoted as the biggest drop shipping CMS providers and movies platform. He said that all the students present here are actually the owners of the startups which is a win-win.
He encouraged students by giving example of Emirates Code EK that started with Pakistani pilots and its first flight was to Karachi. He said that today emirates airline is a success and if we Pakistanis can do it for others, we can do it for ourselves too. All it takes is we need to realize our potential.
Chairman BOG also said that everyone working in the IT Industry is actually playing their part in the progress of the country. Soon TUF will engage in bringing even more opportunities for students of IT in Faisalabad to showcase their talent to the world. He ended his speech with Pakistan, Zinda Abad.
With that, Mr Haider Amin presented souvenirs to the honorable guests as the memento of being at TUF and being at Innovative Lyallpur 2.0.
After the session in the auditorium, the time for evaluation approached. The panel of judges along with Chairman BOG along with Dean Information Technology, visited all 150 booths and talked to the students about their projects. They evaluated the students on the basis of the innovative idea, their knowledge and how personally they participated in creating their projects. Judges took time to share their evaluation and deciding winners.

E-games and fun games were also played at the event for the sake of entertainment and results and their winners were also announced at the closing ceremony. The hall had pin drop silence and every participant was heaving fast heart throbs when the closing ceremony started with the recitation of Holy Quran and Naat Rasool Pak (S.A.W).
E-Gaming programs: The winners and runner ups for Speed Programming were announced first. First position holder was Junaid Tariq from NTU Faisalabad received 6000/- PKR as prize money while Asad Daniyal from TUF got the title of first runner up. In Bug Catcher game Waleed Amjad Arham Iftikhar from TUF was the runner up, and Talha Saad Afazal Bajwa from NTU received the first prize, with 4000/- PKR cash prize. Pub-G one of the most popular game, in the rivalry Abdullah Wajid from team COMSATS (Vihari campus) was firs runner up and Daniyal Hussain & Team from TUF University won the title of winner and received 7500/- PKR cash prize. Students received prizes from the hands of Dr Ghufran. In FIFA competition, TUF got both titles. Runner-up was Subhan, and Abdullah won the title of FIFA champion with 3000/- PKR cash prize.
Fun games category: In Ludo Star game Mateen Usman from UMT was runner up and winners were Hussain and Usman Gujjar from TUF University with 5000/-PKR cash prize. In Chess competition, Bilal from TUF University was runner up while the winner was Faheem from NTU with 3000/- PKR cash prize. In Taken-7 game Hamza Ishfaq from TUF was the runner up and Haider Ali from UMT (Lahore) got first position with 3000/- PKR cash prize. The received prizes from the hand of Prof Dr. Sultan Zia Chairman CS NFC.

Following the project presentations, the judges were acknowledged and applauded for their invaluable contribution. Special recognition was extended to Mr Ghufran Khan, Prof Dr Sultan Zia, Chairman CS NFC, Dr Salman Mustufa, COMSATS Multan, Dr Shahbaz Ahmad Sahi, Superior University, and Dr Hamid Ali from NTU. With heartfelt thanks to all involved, the ceremony drew to a close, marking the end of a truly memorable event.
It was a day of inspiration and motivation for the students, who could see their dreams turning into reality. The event was a great success, and we hope to see more such events in the future to promote innovation and creativity in the tech industry.
