The University of Faisalabad hosted a thought-provoking and insightful awareness session under the nationwide campaign initiated by the Association of Private Sector Universities of Pakistan (APSUP) themed “Imagine Pakistan 2030: Challenges, Opportunities, and the Way Forward”
The event was graced by Mian Amer Mahmood, Chairman Punjab Group, as the Chief Guest, along with Prof Dr Chaudhry Abdul Rehman, Chairman APSUP and Prof Sohail Afzal, Executive Director Punjab Group, as Guests of Honour.
In his keynote address, Mian Amer Mahmood underscored the pivotal role of youth in reshaping the future of Pakistan, urging them to act as social warriors capable of transforming public opinion and driving positive change. He stressed that strengthening governance at both provincial and local levels is essential, with the creation of 33 provinces being a fundamental requirement for balanced development.
Reflecting on regional disparities, he noted that despite being the third largest city of the country, Faisalabad has fallen far behind in terms of resources and infrastructure, which strengthens the case for declaring Faisalabad as a separate province. He further told that 44 percent of children in Pakistan suffer from stunted growth due to food insecurity, while 25 million children remain out of school, a grave situation that threatens to derail the nation’s future and render its youth unemployable.
Prof Dr Chaudhry Abdul Rehman, commended the efforts of The University of Faisalabad and APSUP in organizing such an impactful session. He expressed his gratitude to Mian Amer Mahmood and Mr Muhammad Haider Amin, Chairman BOG, TUF for their vision in providing students with meaningful insights on governance and policy reforms. Mr Haider Amin thanked the distinguished guests and appreciated their valuable insights. Addressing students, he urged them to take ownership of Pakistan’s future: “Each one of you has a responsibility towards your community and your country. Advocate for transparency, demand accountability, and lead with integrity.”
Students of TUF actively participated in Q&A session, making the dialogue more engaging and impactful. They raised thought-provoking questions related to good governance, transparency, rule of law, accountability and sustainable development, which were addressed comprehensively by Mian Amer Mahmood. As part of TUF’s ‘Go Green’ initiative, the guests planted saplings in the university lawn.
