Ambassador of Somalia visits TUF: Strengthening academic ties

H.E. Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan, Ambassador of Somalia to Pakistan visited The University of Faisalabad on April 30, 2025. His Excellency was accompanied by Ms Asma Haghi and Ms Sarah Mohamed from the Somalian Embassy. The University’s Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dr Muhammad Hamza Amin, Rector Prof Dr Aman Ullah Malik, along with Deans and department heads participated in a meeting with the distinguished delegation.

During the meeting, discussions were held on strengthening educational exchanges and exploring avenues for collaboration in research and higher education between Pakistan and Somalia. TUF’s Head of International Programs, Mr Hanan Iftikhar, presented detailed information to the delegation about the Madina Foundation’s various initiatives, including The University of Faisalabad, University Medical & Dental College, Madinah Teaching Hospital, and other welfare projects under the Madinah Foundation.

H.E Sheikhnur Mohamed Hassan emphasized the long-standing, deep trade relations between Pakistan and Somalia, adding that both countries, as brotherly Islamic nations, aim to enhance their educational collaboration. He mentioned that over 700 Somali students are currently studying in various universities across Pakistan. The Ambassador also invited the University’s faculty members, particularly those from the Information Technology department, to visit Somalin universities to provide Somalian students with learning opportunities.

Dr Muhammad Hamza Amin, in his address, thanked the visiting delegation and stated that TUF has built an international reputation for academic excellence, and students from diverse countries are currently enrolled in TUF. He appreciated the ambassador's interest and support in promoting bilateral academic collaboration. Dr Hamza announced scholarships for 100 talented Somali students. Under this initiative, the University will provide free education and hostel facilities for students in programs such as Information Technology, Allied Health Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Management Studies, and Social Sciences.

The Somalin Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the University management for this gesture. Rector Prof Dr Aman Ullah Malik stated that students from Palestine and Iraq are receiving free education through the Madinah Foundation’s scholarship program, and similarly, the University will provide free education to Somali students as well.

Deans of various University faculties, including Prof Dr Majid Hussain, Prof Dr Matloob Ahmed, Prof Dr Muhammad Ashfaq, Prof Dr Tahira Iqbal, and Prof Dr Saba Tariq, shared detailed information with the delegation about undergraduate and postgraduate programs available at the University.

Somalian Ambassador also visited the University’s various departments, laboratories, and libraries, which he described as being of international standard. He further toured the Madinah Teaching Hospital, where Medical Superintendent Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Dilshad guided the visit. During the visit, he interacted with patients in various departments, presenting them with flowers. The Ambassador appreciated the hospital’s modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art healthcare facilities and expressed a keen interest in arranging internships and training for Somalian medical students at the hospital. Dr Muhammad Hamza Amin presented the honorary shield of the University to the Ambassador. To mark the visit, the Somali Ambassador planted a commemorative tree in the University’s lawn.
