OBJECTIVES

  • To prepare individuals who will advance the field of physical therapy through research, teaching, and translation of discoveries into practice.
  • To design and implement research studies that will contribute to the knowledge base of rehabilitation sciences.
  • To contribute to national and international organizations committed to the advancement of rehabilitation practice through the translation of innovative research into practice.
  • To Promote of quality research-based multidisciplinary rehabilitation services to the disabled community.

Learning Outcomes

  • Graduates will be able to understand Physical Therapy and biopsychosocial constructs of disability and apply this information to develop excellence in research, education, service delivery, and policy development and interpretation.
  • Understand the unique role and contribution to Physical Therapy of entering disciplines (e.g., physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, prosthetics and orthotics, rehabilitation counseling, and other rehabilitation-related professions); as well as appreciating integration and synergy across these disciplines.
  • The scholars will engage in preparation as a teachers of Physical Therapy and the student’s respective disciplines.
  • The scholars will critically evaluate and synthesize research in Physical Therapy.
  • Understand research methods relevant to Physical Therapy.
  • Design and implement innovative research relevant to Physical Therapy.
  • Design and deliver scholarly presentations and facilitate effective discussions.
  • Disseminate research and other scholarly products/manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and other venues appropriate to the field of Physical Therapy.
  • Effectively design, implement, and evaluate instruction related to a focused area of study and reflecting a Rehabilitation Sciences perspective.
