The Department of Design & Interiors organized an engaging and hands-on clay workshop for students across three semesters (1st, 3rd, and 5th) on the 18th of December. The primary objective of this workshop was to provide students with an opportunity to explore the medium of clay, enhance their tactile skills, and encourage creative experimentation beyond digital tools. The workshop began with an insightful presentation, discussing the historical significance of clay in art and its contemporary applications in design.
Techniques such as coiling, pinching, slab building, and wheel throwing were highlighted. The facilitator demonstrated basic clay handling techniques and shared tips for achieving structural stability and intricate details in clay projects. Participants were divided into groups and encouraged to create individual or collaborative clay pieces. The students explored various themes, such as abstract forms, functional objects, and miniature sculptures. At the end of the session, constructive feedback was provided on the students' work, emphasizing areas of strength and suggesting improvements. Students were also encouraged to share their creative processes and challenges. The clay workshop was a resounding success, achieving its objectives of skill development, creativity enhancement, and inter-semester collaboration. The Department of Design & Interiors looks forward to hosting more such enriching sessions in the future.
