Awareness Campaign on Medicinal Plants and Creative Reuse of Recycled Bottles

Students from the 6th Semester, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and Rehabilitation Society, conducted an Awareness Campaign on Medicinal Plants and Creative Reuse of Recycled Bottles at Al-Haseeb Grammar School, Millat Town, Faisalabad.

During the campaign, students educated young learners about the health benefits of various medicinal plants and engaged them in an interactive session promoting environmental sustainability. The featured medicinal plants included:

  • Tulsi (Holy Basil): Known for its stress-relieving, immunity-boosting, and antioxidant properties
  • Lemongrass: Recognized for its antiseptic qualities, role as a natural insect repellent, and digestive benefits
  • Aloe Vera: Valued for skin care, burn relief, and moisturizing effects
  • Mint: Aids digestion and acts as a natural breath freshener
  • Flowers: Enhance aesthetics, support pollination, and contribute to emotional well-being

As part of the hands-on component, students and schoolchildren collaboratively planted these medicinal species in eco-friendly planters creatively crafted from recycled plastic bottles. This initiative emphasized sustainable urban living and directly supported Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by fostering waste reduction, creative reuse, and community engagement.

Through this experiential learning activity, students enhanced their competencies in:

  • Creative problem-solving
  • Environmentally sustainable practices
  • Community outreach and environmental awareness
  • Teamwork and collaboration

This initiative reflects the Department’s and the Rehabilitation Society’s joint commitment to follow SDG 11—Sustainable Cities and Communities—equipping future professionals with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to healthcare and sustainability-focused community initiatives.
