The Department of English Language and Literature at Saleem Campus commemorated International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2025, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. The event, organized by Ms. Maria Hafeez, Lecturer in the Department of English, celebrated the importance of linguistic diversity and the preservation of native languages, emphasizing their cultural and historical significance.
A key highlight of the event was a poster competition, which provided students with an opportunity to creatively express their perspectives on the value of mother languages. Dr. Wardah Azhar, an esteemed academic, served as the judge for the competition. Through their artwork, students depicted various aspects of their native languages, including Punjabi, Pashto, Saraiki, and Hindko, showcasing their linguistic richness, historical relevance, and continued significance in today’s world.
The competition fostered meaningful discussions among students about the preservation of native languages and the importance of linguistic heritage. This event not only encouraged pride in their cultural identities but also served as a reminder of the role language plays in shaping communities and societies. The Department of English Language and Literature is committed to continuing such initiatives, raising awareness about the vital need to preserve linguistic and cultural diversity.
