3rd International Myopia Conference 2025

The Departments of Optometry and Ophthalmology organized the 3rd International Myopia Conference 2025, featuring comprehensive Pre-Conference Workshops. This event provided invaluable insights into the latest advancements in myopia management through a series of expert-led sessions and engaging discussions.

The 3rd International Myopia Conference was officially inaugurated by Rector Prof Dr Amanullah Malik, who expressed great pride in hosting this prestigious event. He remarked, "We are honored to welcome leading experts in the field of myopia management. This conference serves as an invaluable platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange and innovation to tackle the growing global issue of myopia." This initiative contributes to SDG 3, aiming to reduce global morbidity and improve access to essential healthcare services for eye health.

Pre-Conference Workshop and Day 1 Sessions:

The conference kicked off with a well-received pre-conference workshop, followed by Day 1 sessions that covered a wide range of important topics in myopia management:

  • Strategizing Myopia Management: Developing Tailored Treatment Plans for Myopic Patients by Professor James Wolffsohn, Dean of Optometry at Aston University, UK
  • From Research to Practice: Effective Myopia Control with Modern Interventions by Aamer Ejaz Khan Niazi, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Optometry & Orthoptics, Riphah University Lahore
  • Preventing Myopia Onset and Slowing Progression: What Can I Do? by Professor Mark Bullimore, Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston, United States
  • Advancing Myopia Management through Collaboration and Innovation by Indie Grewal, BSc (Hons) MCOptom DipTp(IP) Prof Cert Glau FBDO FBCLA

The workshop was facilitated in person by Dr Memoona Arshad, PhD(Optom), FAAO, FBCLA, Assistant Professor at The University of Faisalabad, and Dr Asad Ullah, Optometrist and Consultant at Timergara Teaching Hospital.

Day 1 - Keynote Speakers

The conference officially began with two captivating keynote sessions by Dr Fatima Iqbal - "Beyond Refraction: Enhancing Visual Clarity in Myopia through Ocular Surface Optimisation". Dr Iqbal, a Research Fellow at The University of Melbourne, Australia, shared her groundbreaking research on enhancing visual outcomes in myopia management through ocular surface health. Dr Iqbal is also an alumna of The University of Faisalabad. Dr Asad Ullah - "Myopia Control: Why's, When's & How" Dr Asad Ullah, an optometrist and consultant at Timergara Teaching Hospital, presented valuable insights into the most effective strategies for controlling myopia progression.

Day 2 - Scientific Session Highlights

The Department of Optometry and Ophthalmology were privileged to have Prof Dr Asad Aslam Khan (Sitara-e-Imtiaz) as a Guest of Honor. Scientific Session brought together an impressive lineup of experts, including:

  • Professor Christopher Liu OBE – Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist, UK
  • Dr Mufarriq Shah – Associate Professor, Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology, Peshawar
  • Dr. Zahid Awan – Senior Programme Manager for Inclusive Eye Health at CBM International
  • Prof Dr Nasir Chaudhary – Ophthalmologist, Mayo Hospital Lahore
  • Aamer Ejaz Khan Niazi – Senior Lecturer at the Department of Optometry & Orthoptics, Riphah University Lahore

The event concluded with Dr Amir Ali Chaudhary delivering the closing remarks and officially announcing the dates for the 4th International Myopia Conference. This initiative contributes to the broader goals of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, advancing eye health knowledge and education for all.
