Fall Prevention Awareness Session Promotes Healthy Aging at TUF
The Rehabilitation Society of The University of Faisalabad successfully organized a Fall Prevention Awareness Session at Old Age Shelter Home (Aafiyat), focusing on healthy aging, fall prevention, and safe mobility among older adults. Led by student volunteers, the initiative provided participants with practical awareness about common causes and risk factors associated with falls while emphasizing the importance of maintaining balance, strength, coordination, and mobility for an active and independent lifestyle.
During the session, volunteers demonstrated evidence-based exercises designed to improve balance, coordination, and muscle strength. As part of the initiative, the volunteers also introduced a Gamified Balance Board, an innovative adaptation of the conventional balance board designed to make rehabilitation exercises more engaging, interactive, and effective. The initiative highlighted the role of accessible and patient-centered rehabilitation in preventing falls and promoting better functional health among older adults.
To demonstrate its clinical applications, the Gamified Balance Board was presented to physicians at National Hospital Faisalabad, where its rehabilitation benefits and practical applications were discussed. The innovation was also utilized with patients at Madinah Teaching Hospital Faisalabad to explore its potential in improving balance and postural stability. Faculty members appreciated the initiative and recognized its potential value in rehabilitation practice and fall prevention.
The activity reflects the Rehabilitation Society's commitment to community engagement, health promotion, innovation, and social responsibility. By combining awareness, practical rehabilitation exercises, and technology-driven solutions, the initiative contributed to promoting safer mobility and healthier aging while supporting SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
