Seminar on “Cyber Laws and Women Harassment: Legal protections available to Women”

Department of Law, The University of Faisalabad organized a seminar on “Cyber laws and women harassment: Legal protections available to women” in Saleem Campus.

Mr Muhammad Aftab Alam, Executive Director, Institute of Research, Advocacy and Development (IRADA) was the guest speaker while Dr Farhana Nosheen, Associate Professor form GC University Faisalabad was Keynote Speaker.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Muhammad Aftab Alam explained the cyber laws in the light of Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 of Pakistan. He said that lack of awareness about PECA regarding women harassment among masses is one of the main reasons for harassment. Our women feel frightened to file complaints against such cases. We are determined to ensure proper implementation of the cyber laws pertaining to protection against women harassment, he added.

He advised the females, particularly girl students, to not share their personal data, passwords, mobile phone numbers and other personal information with unknown persons. In case of any harassment issue they must register a complaint in FIA office. Dr Farhana Nosheen in her address requested parents to give confidence to their daughters to contribute in the efforts for creating awareness against harassment of women at the workplaces. She said that our aim is to safeguard the rights of women and provide them equal opportunities to grow in society.

Prof (Meritorious) Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman, Rector, TUF said that besides creating an Anti-harassment Committee, The University of Faisalabad is making all possible efforts to raise awareness about harassment in society. TUF is also proudly working for women empowerment in the country. Mr Same-ur-Rahman, Head Department of Law, thanked the guest speakers for the valuable information they shared. Ms Zahida Maqbool, Additional Registrar, large number of faculty members and students attended the informative session.
