Nursing Students Visit Al-Bashir School for the Blind to Learn About Inclusive Education
Eighth-semester students of BSN from the School of Nursing at The University of Faisalabad conducted an educational study tour to the Faisalabad Disabled Foundation’s Al-Bashir School for the Blind as part of their Community Health Nursing course. Supervised by nursing instructor Nida Rahat along with faculty members Asia Arshad and Mariam Tazeem, the visit provided future healthcare professionals with clinical exposure to disability management and community-based rehabilitation.
During the tour, students engaged directly with visually impaired children, gaining firsthand insight into special education practices, including Braille learning techniques, orientation, and mobility training. Principal Ms Shakila Ahmad and foundation staff provided an overview of the facility's educational, vocational, and social support services, which focus on fostering functional independence and social inclusion for individuals with disabilities.
The academic study tour aimed to bridge community health theory with practical care, emphasizing empathetic communication, inclusive healthcare practices, and the vital role of rehabilitation services. Faculty members highlighted that direct community engagement helps nursing students better understand the specific challenges faced by special-needs populations and reinforces the importance of equal health access across society.
