Images obtained by radiological science professionals are the first line of diagnosis and treatment for a patient. The mission of the School of Radiology is to provide graduates with the knowledge, clinical skills, and compassion that will allow them to become exemplary medical imaging technologists and future leaders in radiology and advanced imaging professions.
The mission of the School of Radiology is to research, teach, promote and implement a comprehensive range of preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic medical imaging services in Pakistan. This is accomplished by training competent professional radiological practitioners, by conducting significant fundamental and applied research, by cultivating and training doctor of radiology graduate students, by providing continuing education and post-graduate training, and perhaps most importantly, by providing exemplary clinical services.
The DMIS program mission is supported by the following program goals and objectives:
1. Medical Knowledge:
A. The Doctor of Radiology program will provide high quality education which will prepare graduates to provide full-scope radiological services in an ethical and professional manner by professionally skilled instructors.
B. To train professional radiological scientists with sufficient and relevant scientific and technological skills with high degree of competence and safety in the practice of radiography in health care delivery system.
C. Understand the relationship between the basic and clinical sciences as it applies to Radiology. Apply their knowledge in the basic and clinical sciences to the determination of which imaging studies are most appropriate to the care of their patients. Understand which study would be most important and helpful versus which studies are less useful or helpful for diagnoses of a wide spectrum of specific diseases.
2. Patient Care:
The professional radiological scientist will
A. Learn the anatomic appearance of all parts of the body recognizable on imaging studies.
B. Learn to recognize changes seen on follow-up studies and determine how the new and additional information learned can be used in the care of patient.
C. Learn to understand when and which imaging studies are indicated for emergency, urgent or routine patient care and the appropriate time interval between such studies.
D. Learn which studies are contraindicated in a patient’s condition.
E. Understand basic information on equipment capability and how to access the technical expertise of technicians to overcome the difficulty in recognition of pathologies created by other basic factors (example – obesity, fibrosis, scar tissue, etc.).
F. Understand the socioeconomic capabilities of patients and the financial impact upon them of having studies done, especially in those cases where the study ordered has not been recognized to be useful in finding the pathology sought.
3. Practice Based Learning and Improvement
Radiological scientist will learn to:
A. Facilitate and support his/her own education by reading current journal publications and utilizing information technology.
B. Assess, apply, and assimilate investigative knowledge to improve patient care.
C. Have small group seminar discussions, film interpretation discussions, etc.
4. Interpersonal and Communication Skills
Radiological scientist will learn
A. The terminology specific to Radiology and how to use it in verbal and written communication with patients, family, staff and peers.
B. Learn how to communicate with patients as to the need for imaging studies and understanding the results of such studies.
c. Utilize intuitive and listening skills
D. Learn the importance of being a team player.
E. Learn how to communicate in an organized manner.
Prepare radiological scientist to:
A. Complete responsibilities reliably.
B. Demonstrate respect, empathy, and integrity.
C. Demonstrate understanding of ethical principles of autonomy, beneficence, informed consent, and confidentiality.
6 .Systems-Based Practice
Radiological scientist will
A. Recognize the role of the Radiologist as a member and coordinator of the healthcare delivery team.
B. Recognize the role of the Radiologist as a member and coordinator of the healthcare delivery team.
C. Realize the Radiologist’s role in the community and society.
7. International competency
Prepare the radiological scientists to take the Radiology examination internationally.
8. Post graduation and Research
The program is committed to providing research experiences for radiological scientists so that they can contribute to the advancement of radiology.
Provide students with the educational background required to peruse postgraduate studies.
The medical student program in the Department of Radiological Sciences is designed to introduce students to the spectrum of diagnostic imaging modalities and their role in the clinical management of patients. It provides students with knowledge of essential radiographic clinical management of patients. It provides students with knowledge of essential radiographic anatomy and key imaging features of common diseases. The basic principles of all forms of diagnostic imaging pertaining to thoracic, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, cardiac, neuroradiology, mammography, pediatrics, emergency radiology, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, and interventional radiology are provided. Students acquire interpretative skills by didactic instruction and interactive teaching sessions and through the use of Web-based teaching materials.
Greater depth of experience is provided by the elective clerkship offered at the end that emphasizes training in general diagnostic radiology, angiography/interventional radiology neuroradiology, and pediatric radiology. In today's market, practice opportunities for Radiological scientist abound. Radiological scientists may elect to practice individually join group practices, ENGOs, centers, teach, conduct valuable research, and participate in health-care administration and practice in military and public health-care settings.
There are plenty opportunities for graduate students in teaching and general hospitals to perform in patient assessment, patient management, fluoroscopy and other radiologic procedures.

Amna Hall, Khadija Hall, Ayesha Hall, Fatima Hall, Zainab Hall, Ruqaiya Hall, and TUFIANS are hostels having furnished rooms to accommodate more than 1200 students. These halls provide a number of facilities including TV lounges, common rooms, study rooms, Wi-Fi, prayer rooms and kitchens. All students residing in the hostel are expected to conform to rules and regulations framed from time to time.
Food catering service having a wide range of quality snacks and meals at modest prices is available throughout the day.
Branches of Habib Metropolitan Bank are opened for facilitating the students and employees of the university in making financial transactions. ATM machines are also installed in the University.
The university has out-sourced transport to facilitate students in their pick and drop from and to the University.
