World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is observed worldwide on February 4 to aware the public about prevalence of cancer, exposure to risk factors, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment modalities.
Department of Pathology, University Medical & Dental College has been celebrating world cancer day since last 10 years by adopting different awareness strategies. This year a poster competition was arranged among the students of 3rd year MBBS under supervision of Dr Asma Naseer Cheema, Associate Professor of Pathology. The students did extraordinary work by professionally presenting different posters from published research literature on different types of cancers.
The chief guest, Dr Sumera Ehsan, Assistant Professor, Faisalabad Medical University appreciated the student’s and teacher’s efforts. A panel of judges, Prof Dr Abdul Haq, Prof Dr Tanzeela Khalid, Associate Prof Dr Shirza Nadeem, Dr Sundas Tariq, Dr Saba Tariq and Dr Shazia Aslam evaluated the posters. The best posters and presenters were awarded with shields & certificates by Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed, Pro Rector, Health Sciences Campus. He encouraged the students and faculty of Pathology department for organizing such an outstanding academic activity.

Awareness seminar on “Seasonal Influenza”

A seminar on “Seasonal Influenza H1N1” was organized in The University of Faisalabad on February 14, 2018. Speaking on the occasion Prof Dr Zahid Masood, Head Department of Community Medicine, UMDC shared signs and symptoms of seasonal influenza and different precautionary measures. He further added that there was no treatment for this viral infection.
Earlier, Dr Sumera Shahzad spoke on recent surge in cases of H1N1 flu in some parts of Punjab. She added that this disease is seen more frequently in winter season. Students from different disciplines asked questions and appreciated the efforts of the university administration for organizing this awareness session.

Awareness walk with slogan “Say No to Salt”

WHO recommends salt consumption of 2000 mg per day which makes less than half a tea spoon. Nutrition Society, TUF arranged a walk to raise awareness of the risk of increased salt consumption. Prof Dr Faqir Hussain, Dean Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences along with other faculty members led the walk. Students were holding the banners and display cards bearing the messages regarding the damaging effects of too much salt.
Addressing the students Prof Dr Faqir Hussain said, excessive consumption of salt in our diet can damage the heart, aorta, and kidneys without increasing blood pressure, and that it may be bad for bones, too.

Emergency Service Rescue 1122 on “Basic Life Support”

Rehabilitation Society under the umbrella of School of Rehabilitation Sciences organizes two day workshop by Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 on “Basic Life Support” was held at Saleem Campus . Mr Muzammil Hussain; Rescue & community instructor gave precise description on basic life support procedures & a demonstration session was also conducted. Students practiced all the techniques at the end of session

Seminar on “Road Safety Awareness”

Road Safety Club, TUF organized a seminar on “Road Safety Awareness” in Engineering Campus on February 9, 2018. Chief Guest of the event, Syed Hussnain Haider (PSP) Chief Traffic Officer, Faisalabad delivered a very informative lecture to the students and faculty members about traffic rules and regulations.

Moreover, Mr Imran Sharif, DSP Head Quarter CTP and Mr Waqas Ali,  Incharge Education Unit CTP Faisalabad in their presentations told the audience about road environment and road safety measures.

Prof Dr Zahir Javed Paracha, Pro Rector, TUF (Engineering Campus) in his address, emphasized the importance of organizing such awareness sessions particularly for young students.

The event was well coordinated by Mr Muhammad Ishfaq, Assistant Professor School of Electrical Engineering and Incharge, Road Safety Club.

International Seminar on “Recent Advances in Interventional Cardiology”

Department of Medical Education, UMDC in collaboration with Department of Cardiology, MTH organized an international seminar on “Recent Advances in Interventional Cardiology” in Health Sciences Campus on February 8, 2018.

Prof Dr Tanzeela Khalid, Director, Medical Education in her welcome address told about the purpose of the seminar.

Guest Speaker, Dr Muhammad Raza, Director Cardiac Cath Lab, Crozer Chester Medical Center, Upland and Consultant Cardiologist, Penn Presbyterian Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, USA, gave a comprehensive lecture on “Advances in structural heart disease interventions: The new gold standard”. He spoke about various cardiac interventions for aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation and other congenital heart diseases. He stressed on the multidisciplinary team approach in the field of interventional cardiology. Dr Muhammad Raza shared his work experience in USA with the audience and informed them that risk of complications of these interventional procedures has decreased over the years.

Chief Guest of the event Prof Dr Anjum Jalal, Executive Director, Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology said that prevalence of structural abnormalities of heart has increased in Pakistan and these should be repaired through interventional strategies for better patient survival and outcome.

Dr Naeem Asghar, Head of Cardiology Department, MTH gave presentation on “Interventional cardiology services at Madinah Teaching Hospital “. He informed the audience that MTH has fully equipped and functional cardiology unit.

In concluding session, Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed, Principal UMDC and Pro Rector TUF (Health Sciences Campus) threw light on the importance of topic for young doctors.

Prof Dr Naeem Aslam, former Head of Cardiology Department, Allied Hospital, Faisalabad was the guest of honour. Renowned cardiologist, Prof Dr Abdul Hafeez Chaudhry and Dr Abdul Razzaq Mughal, paediatric cardiologist also graced the occasion.

Islamic Seminar

A seminar on the death anniversaries of “Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed (RA) and Fateh-Sindh Muhammad Bin Qasim (RA)” was held under the auspicious of the Religious Society, TUF in Engineering Campus. Guest speaker, Mr Abdul Qavi Baghdadi threw light on the characters and heroic deeds of these great personalities of Islamic history. Both the personalities were matchless in bravery, courage, vision and war techniques, he added. Mr Hamid Nawaz Sheikh, Controller Examinations, in his presidential address told about the great services of Hazrat Khalid Bin Waleed (RA) and Muhammad Bin Qasim (RA) for Islam.
