Seminar on ‘Oncoplastic Breast Surgery’ in UMDC and ‘Breast Cancer Clinic’ inaugurated at MTH

Department of Medical Education, University Medical & Dental College organized a seminar on “Oncoplastic Breast Surgery” on January 11, 2018.
Dr Saira Saleem, Department of Surgery, Madinah Teaching Hospital in her presentation said, with 90,000 breast cancer cases being annually reported in the country and over 40,000 deaths caused by it, Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in Asia. She gave a comprehensive a lecture on Oncoplastic Breast Surgery method.
Prof Dr Sadia Hameed, Head Department of Pathology, UMDC in her address briefed about “Role of Pathology Department in Integrated Breast Clinic Services”.
Prof Dr Nayab Alia, Head Department of Radiology, MTH gave her views on “Role of Radiology Department in Integrated Breast Clinic Services”. She said MTH is equipped with latest machinery including Ultrasonography, Digital Mammography with Sterotactic Biopsy and dedicated Breast MRI to facilitate patients.
Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed, Principal UMDC in his address emphasized to create awareness amongst the women as early detection of breast cancer can make the disease easier to treat and increases survival rates.
A panel discussion was also held on breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, actively participated by the senior doctors from Madinah Teaching Hospital and Allied Hospital Faisalabad.
Later, ‘Breast Cancer Clinic’ was also inaugurated by a cancer patient in MTH. Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed, Brig (Retd) Dr Munir Ahmad, MS MTH and other senior doctors were present on the occasion.
