UHS Bilingual Debates Competition Being Organized

The first level of all Punjab University of Health Sciences debate competition was held in University Medical & Dental College on February 8, 2019. Students from MBBS and BDS enthusiastically participated in the competition. Ms Khunsha Khalid (3rd-year MBBS) stood first in English debate titled “Knowledge is power or power is power” and Ms Maria (4th-year MBBS) stood first in Urdu debate titled” FaceBook, Do Dhaari Talwaar”.

This successful event was presided and organized by Prof Dr Haji Aslam, Dr Saba Tariq and Dr Sundus Tariq. Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed, Principal, UMDC appreciated the effort of students and faculty, appreciated the efforts of organizers and the debaters. He said that healthy and constructive debates should be encouraged and medical students speak freely on current social issues. Later, certificates and shields were distributed among the winners and the runner-ups.

Academic institutes should organize such competitions as debate helps learners to see the power of deploying rational, reasoned arguments and compelling evidence in action. It enables them to elucidate their standpoint through utilizing rhetorical eloquence.
