Seminar “Breast Cancer Awareness, Prevention and Control” Department of Community Medicine and Community Services Society TUF in collaboration with HEC and Pink Ribbon Pakistan organized seminar on “Breast Cancer Awareness, Prevention and Control” on October 20, 2021. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Aamir Ali Chaudhry, Principal University Medical & Dental College encouraged the university students to act as Change Agents and spread awareness message of “early detection can saves lives” in the community. He stressed upon them to familiarize with Breast Self Examination (BSE) technique. Prof Dr Saira Saleem, a leading female breast surgeon in Madinah Teaching Hospital (MTH), shed light on the services provided by MTH for breast cancer treatment and role of Multidisciplinary Team Approach for its treatment. She highlighted the dilemma that majority of the females in Pakistan present with breast cancer in very late stages when survival rate is not much. Prof Dr Shazia Aslam, Head of Pathology Department enlightened the audience with diagnostic services available for breast cancer in MTH and addressed the major Myths associated with breast cancer in our community. Assoc Prof Dr Sumera Riaz, Head of Community Medicine Department emphasized on the importance of breast cancer screening through Breast Self Examination (BSE) followed by clinical breast examination and mammogram.

Faculty members of the Community Medicine Department explained this technique to the university students through informative literature and pictures. Members of Community Services Society collected donation for Pink Ribbon Pakistan for their goal to build first breast cancer hospital in Pakistan. Students of The University of Faisalabad generously donated for this cause and enthusiastically participated in this awareness program. The seminar was followed by an awareness walk which was participated by faculty members and students.
