Interdisciplinary Debate Contest on "Hazrat Hassan R.A. and Unity of Muslim Ummah"

Concerning the sacred month of Ramadan, a debate contest titled "Hazrat Hassan R.A. and Unity of Muslim Ummah" was organized by the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Faisalabad, Saleem campus, on 26th March 2024. The honorable jury, including Dr Nailah Riaz (Head of Department of English Language & Literature), Dr Momina Javed (Lecturer Dental Department), Dr Sana Masood (Demonstrator of Community Dentistry), and Ms Zarnab Khalid (Coordinator, Department of English) graced the event. The event aimed to explore the pivotal role of Hazrat Hassan R.A. in fostering unity within the Muslim Ummah and to analyze its relevance in contemporary times.

The contest featured nine contestants from various disciplines, each presenting their distinctive outlook and standpoints in support of Hazrat Hassan R.A.'s role in promoting unity in Muslim Ummah. The participants delved into historical accounts, analyzed Quranic verses and Hadiths, and offered contemporary perspectives to support their arguments. The contestants exemplified the diplomatic skills and compassion of Hazrat Hassan R.A, which were instrumental in resolving conflicts and fostering unity, presenting historical accounts and Quranic references to support their argument. Altogether, they drew parallels between the challenges faced during Hazrat Hassan R.A.'s time and contemporary issues plaguing the Muslim world, highlighting the importance of his leadership in navigating such crises.

A panel of esteemed judges evaluated the discourse and presentations based on clarity, coherence, depth of analysis, and adherence to the topic. Judges also assessed the participants' public speaking skills and their ability to engage with opposing viewpoints respectfully and constructively. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the organizing committee and closing remarks from the Head of Department of English. Certificates were awarded to the participating candidates.

The debate contest provided a platform for students to critically examine the legacy of Hazrat Hassan R.A. and its implications for the unity of the Muslim Ummah. It fostered intellectual exchange and encouraged participants to explore different perspectives. It also significantly underscored the importance of understanding historical narratives in addressing contemporary challenges and emphasized the role of constructive dialogue in fostering unity and solidarity within the Muslim community.
