DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY

FACULTY OF SCIENCES

VISION

To create an intellectual environment conducive to innovative teaching and learning. To establish a culture of research to address the challenges in the medical profession.

MISSION

To foster an environment promoting professionalism, ethics, research, and lifelong learning by providing innovative teaching, training, and interdisciplinary research opportunities to the students.

OBJECTIVE

  • To develop innovative, creative, analytical and research-oriented thinking in postgraduate students.
  • To provide in-depth knowledge of physiological processes and understanding to conduct advanced research in the field of Physiology.
  • To support teamwork and design and implement novel approaches by reaching out to other disciplines/sharing research facilities.
  • To ensure sound training for advanced research.

ABOUT US

The physiology department is one of the pioneer departments since the inception of this institution in 2003. The department is recognized for undergraduate programs by PM&DC and UHS. It is also recognized by a college of physicians & surgeons for FCPS training. The department also offers two years /4 Semesters M.Phil. and 3 years (6 semesters) PhD Physiology program.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the anatomical structures and physiological processes of the human body at the molecular, cellular, tissue, organ, and system levels.
  • Explain the principles of homeostasis and physiological regulation across different organ systems.
  • Apply experimental techniques and methodologies commonly used in physiological research, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Critically evaluate scientific literature related to physiological phenomena and experimental findings.
  • Analyze and integrate complex physiological concepts to solve problems related to health, disease, and environmental challenges.
  • Evaluate experimental design and methodology to assess the validity and reliability of physiological research.
  • Effectively communicate physiological concepts, experimental findings, and interpretations to both scientific and non-scientific audiences using appropriate formats (e.g., written reports, oral presentations).
  • Work collaboratively in teams to achieve common goals in physiological research or clinical settings.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior and adherence to professional standards in the conduct of physiological research and in interactions with research participants and colleagues.
  • Recognize the societal and ethical implications of physiological research findings and their application to healthcare practices and public policy.
  • Recognize the importance of continuing education and professional development in the field of physiology.
  • Engage in self-directed learning to stay current with advances in physiological research and their applications.
