DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

FACULTY OF SCIENCES

VISION

To be a leading world-class hub for interdisciplinary education and research programs in microbial pathogenesis, infectious diseases, and immunology to improve human health.

MISSION

To promote high-impact education and innovative research in a diverse and inclusive environment by exploring fundamental questions in microbiology and immunology, and to translate discoveries into therapies against infectious diseases, immune disorders, and cancer.

Objective

  1. To apply fundamental and specialized knowledge of Microbiology to the solution of complex microbiology problems.
  2. To explore new avenues in the field of microbiology, especially in the areas of food microbiology, dairy microbiology, food safety, food hygiene and quality control.
  3. To create highly skilled and knowledge students to contribute in the country to disease diagnosis of bacterial and viral infection in human as well as in animals.

ABOUT US

BS Microbiology is a four-year undergraduate degree Programme that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of microorganisms and their role in various fields, including medicine, agriculture, industry, and environmental science. The Programme combines theoretical knowledge, laboratory work, and practical skills to prepare graduates for careers in microbiology and related fields.

Role and Scope

BS Microbiology degree opens up diverse career opportunities in various sectors. Graduates can work in research laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare facilities, biotechnology firms, food and beverage industries, environmental agencies, quality control laboratories, and government agencies. Job roles may include microbiologist, research associate, laboratory technician, quality control specialist, infectious disease specialist, industrial microbiologist, and environmental microbiologist.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program students will be equipped with:

  1. Conceptual knowledge and in-depth understanding the role of microorganisms in environmental and public health contexts.
  2. Skills necessary to collect, interpret, and critically analyze chemical data from laboratory experiments and the scientific literature
  3. Understanding of the biochemical molecules and pathways that control cellular metabolism of microorganisms and that underlie human diseases.
  4. Technical know-how in using systems thinking to solve microbiological problems in public and environment.
