BS Imaging Sciences


The DMIS program mission is supported by the following program goals and objectives:

1. Medical Knowledge:

A. The Doctor of Radiology program will provide high quality education which will prepare graduates to provide full-scope radiological services in an ethical and professional manner by professionally skilled instructors.

B. To train professional radiological scientists with sufficient and relevant scientific and technological skills with high degree of competence and safety in the practice of radiography in health care delivery system.

C. Understand the relationship between the basic and clinical sciences as it applies to Radiology. Apply their knowledge in the basic and clinical sciences to the determination of which imaging studies are most appropriate to the care of their patients. Understand which study would be most important and helpful versus which studies are less useful or helpful for diagnoses of a wide spectrum of specific diseases.

2. Patient Care:

The professional radiological scientist will

A. Learn the anatomic appearance of all parts of the body recognizable on imaging studies.

B. Learn to recognize changes seen on follow-up studies and determine how the new and additional information learned can be used in the care of patient.

C. Learn to understand when and which imaging studies are indicated for emergency, urgent or routine patient care and the appropriate time interval between such studies.

D. Learn which studies are contraindicated in a patient’s condition.

E. Understand basic information on equipment capability and how to access the technical expertise of technicians to overcome the difficulty in recognition of pathologies created by other basic factors (example – obesity, fibrosis, scar tissue, etc.).

F. Understand the socioeconomic capabilities of patients and the financial impact upon them of having studies done, especially in those cases where the study ordered has not been recognized to be useful in finding the pathology sought.

3. Practice Based Learning and Improvement

Radiological scientist will learn to:

A. Facilitate and support his/her own education by reading current journal publications and utilizing information technology.

B. Assess, apply, and assimilate investigative knowledge to improve patient care.

C. Have small group seminar discussions, film interpretation discussions, etc.

4. Interpersonal and Communication Skills

Radiological scientist will learn

A. The terminology specific to Radiology and how to use it in verbal and written communication with patients, family, staff and peers.

B. Learn how to communicate with patients as to the need for imaging studies and understanding the results of such studies.

c. Utilize intuitive and listening skills

D. Learn the importance of being a team player.

E. Learn how to communicate in an organized manner.

5. Professionalism

Prepare radiological scientist to:

A. Complete responsibilities reliably.

B. Demonstrate respect, empathy, and integrity.

C. Demonstrate understanding of ethical principles of autonomy, beneficence, informed consent, and confidentiality.

6 .Systems-Based Practice

Radiological scientist will

A. Recognize the role of the Radiologist as a member and coordinator of the healthcare delivery team.

B. Realize the Radiologist’s role in the community and society.

7. International competency

Prepare the radiological scientists to take the Radiology examination internationally.

8. Post graduation and Research

The program is committed to providing research experiences for radiological scientists so that they can contribute to the advancement of radiology.

Provide students with the educational background required to peruse postgraduate studies.

There are plenty of opportunities for graduate students in teaching and general hospitals to perform patient assessment, patient management, fluoroscopy and other radiologic procedures.

It has a wide scope, after completion you can work as a:
