Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
• Discuss the anatomy and physiology of the kidney and the cardiovascular system
• Discus the principles and processes, and the history of dialysis
• Describe the role of the dialysis technician and his/her part of a dialysis patient care team
• Differentiate between acute and chronic renal failure, discussing causes of each
• Identify the nutritional needs of the patient.
• Identify related diagnostic tests and treatment modalities.
• Discuss the types of vascular access and how to care for them.
• Prepare the dialysis machine for the hemodialysis patient, including setting up, testing, recirculating, setting parameters, tearing down, cleaning, and disinfecting
This course will train students to operate dialysis equipment, inspect and maintain it. After completing the course, dialysis technicians may work under the supervision of specialized doctors and nurses at hospitals or healthcare setups offering dialysis treatment.
