BS Dental Hygiene

Objective

The objectives of this program are designed to prepare the dental hygiene student to:

• Develop a graduate who practices and promotes ethical and legal considerations in patient care

• Provide quality individualized patient centered dental hygiene care.

• Incorporates leadership, management, communication and problem solving skills to fulfill the role as a member of the Dental care delivery team.

• Serve as a resource of oral health knowledge and education for the healthcare community

Role and Scope

Dental hygienists are skilled healthcare workers who typically work in dentists’ offices. Their job duties center around cleaning patients’ teeth and giving instruction in proper dental hygiene. This is a good career for those who enjoy working directly with people and have an interest in healthcare jobs.

The program emphasizes on evidence based practice and clinical skills to prepare students to assess the medical/dental status of patients, develop a dental hygiene care plan, implement appropriate dental hygiene care, and evaluate outcomes.
