World Glaucoma Day

School of Optometry, TUF observed World Glaucoma Day in Health Sciences Campus on March 17, 2017. Renowned Ophthalmologist Prof Dr Zia ud Din Ahmad was the chief guest.

Students of Doctor of Optometry gave comprehensive presentations regarding preventive and cure of the glaucoma.  Students explained that Glaucoma is a group of diseases that gradually diminishes sight usually due to abnormally high intraocular pressure (pressure inside eye), resulting in optic nerve damage. If left untreated, glaucoma can lead to gradual worsening of vision and ultimately to blindness. Visual damage is mostly irreversible and without any obvious warning. Therefore, it’s often called the ‘silent stealer of sight’, they further added. Students also displayed posters and presented skits to sensitize the audience about glaucoma. Prof Dr Zia ud Din Ahmad in his address appreciated the students’ efforts to create awareness on the harmful impacts of the disease. Prof Dr Aamir Ali Chaudhry, Head School of Optometry in his concluding remarks thanked the chief guest and lauded the student’s active participation.  Later, students also distributed awareness flyers among patients and other visitors in Madinah Teaching Hospital.
